Our current impact on the planet

B Corp certified
Our parent company, English Tea Shop is now B Corp certified. Throughout the process, Joe’s Tea was considered in answering all of the verifications and questions and as a member of the group, we are proud to carry this certification.
B Corps are legally required to consider the impact of decisions on our employees, customers, suppliers, community, and the environment.
Based on the B Impact Assessment, English Tea Shop earned an overall score of 117.8. The median score for ordinary businesses who complete the assessment is currently 50.9.

Carbon neutral certified
We have worked closely with The Sri Lanka Climate Fund and we are pleased to announce that after calculating our carbon footprint they have verified our business as carbon neutral against the globally accepted ISO standard 14025:2006 and ISO 14064-1: 2008 for product and the organisation respectively.

Strictly no GMO
Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) have had their DNA modified by humans through a process of genetic engineering. The dangers and risks of mass GMO farming to the planet is well documented and many countries have banned or restricted their use as a result. With no standardised regulations on the labelling of GMOs in packaging and ingredients means that it’s often difficult or impossible to know where they hide. We guarantee that none of our ingredients or packaging contain any GMOs.
Our packaging materials

Natureflex
Compostable inner packaging in our retail products. Natureflex is a very clever plant-based alternative to plastic.

FSC cardboard
We already use FSC (Forest Stewardship Council Certification) cardboard for most of our packaging and we’re working towards this being 100%.

Pyramid bags, tags and string
Our pyramid bags, string and tag are made from sugar cane, cotton and paper making them all biodegradable and suitable for your food waste bin at home.

“When we make the decision to buy an organic product, we’re not always aware of the huge contribution we are making. Not only does organic farming deliver proven benefits for wildlife, but by avoiding the use of high energy chemicals and encouraging practices that put carbon back in the soil, it also has significant potential to address climate change. Organic farming is great for people too, creating more jobs and reducing farm workers exposure to harmful pesticides. Not only does every pound you spend on organic get you a product you can really trust, but it’s a vote for a better future where food and farming are as it should be.”
